LVTP-7 AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT VEHICLE
The LVTP-7 is a fully amphibious assault vehicle. It is propelled in the water by
two waterjets. It isconstructed of welded aluminium armour. It is fitted with infra-
red driving lights and has a torsion bar and tube suspension.
The first prototype was completed in October 1967 and was known as the
LVTPX-12. By July 1968, a total of 15 prototypes were built. These vehicles
were armed with a 20mm cannon. Development and production of the vehicle
was undertaken by FMC under the supervision of the Naval Ships System Com-
mand. A production order for the LVTP-7 was given to FMC in June 1970 and the
first vehicle was delivered to the United States Marine Corps on August 26, 1971.
The LVTP-7 has replaced the LVTP series in the United States Marine Corps and
is also in service with Argentina, Italy, Spain and Thailand.
